This Privacy Policy explains how Flukesend ("Flukesend", "we", "us") collects, uses, and protects information in connection with the Flukesend platform: the Flukelogs boat application, the Flukesend photo delivery service, and their related websites (together, the "Service"). The Service is a tool used by tour operators and their crews to log trips, record wildlife sightings, and deliver trip reports and photos to guests. By using the Service you agree to the practices described here.
Flukelogs collects precise location, including in the background (while the app is closed or the screen is locked), only while a trip is active. We use it solely to record the vessel's route and calculate distance traveled for that trip, so the breadcrumb path stays accurate for the full duration even when the phone is locked in a pocket. Location collection stops when the trip ends.
For crew members: the location recorded during a trip is your device's location, since the app runs on your phone while you work aboard. Recording runs only between the moment you tap Start Trip and the moment you tap End Trip, and at no other time. Before first use, the app asks you to read this disclosure and confirm you accept location recording during trips; we keep a record of that acceptance. Positions shown publicly on an operator's sightings page are delayed and rounded to a coarse grid (roughly one kilometre), so your precise location is never displayed. End the trip before leaving the vessel: if a trip is left running, recording continues until it is ended.
Shared boats: an operator can choose to share boats with another operator on the platform. While that link is on, the other operator's crew see your boat's live position and the species you are watching, only while a trip is active, along with your sightings and messages from that trip. Nothing else is shared: no route history, no past logbook, no guest information. That is the operator's choice, it is mutual (both operators see each other), and either operator can pause or end it at any time from the boat app.
Region rooms: an operator can also choose to join the room for its own region, a group thread shared with the other operators who have joined it. Members see each other's sightings as they are logged, including where the animals were, and each other's messages. A room never shows a boat's position: where a vessel is stays between two operators who have linked directly. Messages in a room or a shared-boats thread are deleted after a week, and a photo sent in one is deleted after 24 hours.
We do not use location data for advertising, and we do not sell it. You can turn off location access at any time in your device settings, though doing so will prevent the app from recording an accurate route.
We use the information we collect only to operate, support, secure, and improve Flukesend and Flukelogs. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not sell it.
Each operator can access only their own trips, sightings, guests, and settings; access controls in the database enforce this. Flukesend, as the platform operator, can access data across the platform in order to run it: to provide support, fix problems, and improve the Service. That access is used for nothing else. We do not share one operator's data with another operator unless that operator chooses to share live boat positions, sightings and messages with them (see Shared boats above), or chooses to join its region room (see Region rooms above), and we do not give anyone outside Flukesend access to your data.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own use. We share information only with service providers that process data on our behalf to run the Service, and only as needed for that purpose:

Information is stored on managed cloud infrastructure (Supabase) protected by access controls and row level security so that each operator can access only their own data. Passwords are stored in encrypted form. While no system is perfectly secure, we take reasonable measures to protect information against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse.
We keep trip, sighting, and booking records for as long as the operator's account is active and as needed to provide the Service, unless a longer period is required by law. You may request deletion of your data as described below.
The Service is intended for tour operators and their crew and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
